Loblolly pine stand in soft fog

The Timber

What We Grow

Loblolly pine carries the working acres. Hardwood — oak, hickory, sweetgum — holds the bottoms and the creek lines. We protect what was always there before we plant anything new.

How We Harvest

We do not clear-cut. We mark stands by hand. We take what is ready and leave what should grow. The forest looks like a forest when we are done.

What We Plant

Every acre cut is replanted. We favor native pine and hardwood over plantation monoculture. We seed pollinator strips along the rows for the bees.

The Long Cycle

A loblolly takes four decades to mature. The hardwood takes longer. We are not managing for this quarter. We are managing for our grandchildren.
